It’s one of Volkswagen’s global best-sellers and a favourite SUV for Europe. This is the new 2024 Tiguan, arriving on a new platform with a fresh blend of style, functionality, and performance, solidifying its position as a top contender in the market. There’s revised family face, spacious interior, ID-range inspired controls, advanced technology, and a refined driving experience.

Volkswagen has tastefully updated the exterior, giving the Tiguan a contemporary and aerodynamic profile while retaining its distinctive VW DNA. Inside, the cabin exudes comfort and practicality, with premium materials and thoughtful touches throughout.

The car tested is the Tiguan Life 1.5 eTSI with a turbocharged four-cylinder, 150bhp and mild-hybrid engine mated to a 7-speed DSG (Dual Clutch) automatic. It will accelerate 0-62mph acceleration takes about 9.1 seconds. Prices start at £36,000 for this family carrier, though the car as tested was nearly £38k with options. A diesel variant is also available and later in the year a Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) will also be offered.

Open up the boot and there’s 652-litres of luggage space, with an adjustable floor. The rear seats fold in a 60/40 arrangement should you need more room during those trips to IKEA.

Get into the back and the low floor and 30mm longer wheelbase extends the comfort and practicality for rear occupants. There are rear vents and USB-C plugs as well as, of course, child seats ISOFIX anchor points, for the rear and front passenger seat. There’s an intriguing design in the hard-wearing upholstery. The centre armrest folds down with concealed drop-down cupholders.

In the front there’s a large central infotainment screen and a digital instrument display. The layout is almost identical to the new Passat and similar to the ID range with the gear selector moved from the centre console to a stalk on the right side of the steering wheel.

What you do have in the middle is the “Driving Experience Switch” basically a knob with a digital display that you can also press and swipe to employ shortcuts when operating the centre screen. You can access the drive modes, ambiance settings and climate control for example.

It’s comfortable, spacious and familiar in the front of this VW. You sit at a good height, giving you good all-round visibility and it’s generally an inviting cabin with a quality feel. Plus of course it’s loaded with features. It doesn’t just have sensors and all-round cameras, there’s also remote sparking which you can operate from an app on your phones, and for regular spots, you can lock them in the memory and it’ll know what to do when you get there. Connect your phone or employ one of two wireless charging pads.

Behind the wheel, the 2024 Tiguan delivers a refined and composed driving experience with ample power for everyday driving while maintaining impressive fuel efficiency. The smooth-shifting DSG gearbox ensures seamless acceleration, while responsive steering and well-tuned suspension inspire confidence on the road.

Despite its SUV proportions, the Tiguan feels surprisingly agile and easy to manoeuvre, making it equally well-suited to city driving and long highway cruises. Whether navigating crowded urban streets or exploring scenic backroads, the Tiguan handles with poise and composure, delivering a driving experience that’s both engaging and comfortable.

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan raises the bar for what a modern SUV should be. With its winning combination of style, functionality, performance, and technology, the Tiguan offers everything drivers could ask for in a family vehicle. Perfect for those wishing to upgrade from their existing Tiguans, or looking to move across from the Golf.
